TRIPLE CABLED PURSE

Materials:   3hanks of 100 grams.  Noro Iro (a chunky weight yarn)
You can knit the purse with thinner or thicker yarn, just keep in mind that the size of the bag changes accordingly.

Recommended needle size: US 7 (the needle is much smaller than the recommended size on yarn label to make an extra strong fabric).
A cable needle or an extra needle is needed when making the cables
4 buttons for handles
Enough cording (rope) for inner handled (I inserted inside the I cord)
Gauge: 14 sts = 10 cm in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations
k = knit stitch
p = purl stitch
RS = right side
st = stitch
sts = stitches
cn= cable neddle
 WS = wrong side

 [CBL3_BACK]
slide the next 3 sts to the cable needle, move the needle to the back of the work, k3, slide the sts back from the cable needle, k3
[CBL3_FRONT]
slide the next 3 sts to the cable needle, move the needle to the front of the work, k3, slide the sts back from the cable needle, k3
[inc1]  increase 1 stitch by knitting in front and back of the stitch
Seed stitch: K1, P1 on odd # of sts.
Front & Back Pieces
Knit two pieces: front and back. The pieces are knitted starting from the bottom of the bag.
Cast on 50 sts.
1.  Row (RS): k20, p3, k4, p3,  k20
2. Row (WS): p20, k3, p4, k3,  p20
3. Row: k1, inc 1, k19, p3,  slide the next 2 sts to the cn and move to the front of the work, [K1inc1], k1, slide the 2 sts back from the cn, [K1inc1], k1, p3, k19,  inc 1, k1. Total: 54 sts
4. Row:   p21, k3,  p6, k3, p21
5. Row:   k1, inc 1, k20, p3, k6, p3,  k20, inc 1, k1. Total: 56 sts
6. Row:   p22, k3, p6, k3, p22
7. Row:   k22, p3,  [CBL3_FRONT], p3, k22  (center Cable)
8. Row:   p22, k3,  p6, k3, p22
9.  Row  k22, p3,  k6,  p3, k22
10. Row:  p22, k3,  p6, k3, p22
11. Row:  k13, ( p3,  [CBL3_FRONT]  Repeat 3 times), p3, k13  (adding 2 side cables )    
12. Row:  p13, ([k3,  p6],  times ) k3, p12
Repeat rows 9.-12. Twelve more times.
Continue as set, making cables every 4th row, until there are 64 rows total.

65. Row: k1, p1   
66. Row: p1,k1   (Rib pattern)   try the twisted rib its more defined
 Repeat rows 65.-66. 4 more times. Total: 10 rows of rib stitch are completed.

75. Row: Cast off.  It should measure about  13”

Gusset:
Cast on 17 sts.
1. Row (RS): p2, k6, p1, k6, p2
2. Row (WS): k2, p6, k1, p6, k2
3. Row: p2, slide the next 3 sts to the cn and move the needle to the back of the work, k3, k3 from cn,  p1, slide the next 3 sts to the cn and move the needle to the front of the work, k3, k3 from cn , p2.
4. Row: k2, p6, k1, p6, k2
5. Row: p2, k6, p1, k6, p2
6. Row: k2, p6, k1, p6, k2
7. Row: p2, [CBL3_BACK], p1, [CBL3_FRONT], p2
8. Row: k2, p6, k1, p6, k2

Repeat rows 5.-8 until you have  13” +   it should match up one side of purse.
Change to seed stitch (k1, p1 across) for 13” or until it matches bottom of purse
Next side repeat rows 5-8 same as first side again for 13”   BO   
Handles:   make 2 similar handles.
Using double points size 7 cast on 8 sts Knit I-Cord for abt 14” or desired length.
Finishing
1) Press the front and back pieces.
2) GUSSET: Sew the gusset to the front and back of purse making sure the seed st portion of gusset is on the bottom of purse.
3) HANDLES:  you will notice by knitting the I-Cord you have made a tube --  insert a nylon cording to give the handles some strength,  fasten by sewing  the cording in place .
I folded the top part of purse (the rib) down and stitched in place.
Place the handles in the stst part & sew then sew your button of choice.
